The International Architectural Awards are the highest and most prestigious distinguished building awards program that honor new and cutting-edge design.  This annual program, organized by both our institutions, also promotes international architecture and design to our public audience globally. The program has become the most significant and most comprehensive distinguished international awards program in the world. This year, the Museum received a record number of projects for new buildings, landscape architecture, and urban planning from the most important firms practicing globally. The 2012 Jury for Awards was held in Oslo, Norway and 81 projects from 28 nations were selected by a distinguished group of Norwegian architects and educators among them all three of our entries.

Maiden tower [A]

Located adjacent to the architect’s own house, the new structure provides living spaces for the family’s daughters, who quickly outgrew the house of the expanding family. Closed on three sides, the corten steel tower has floor to ceiling windows on the facade facing the existing home, creating a material and formal dialog between the two buildings.

Städtebaulich schafft das Konzept souverän und selbstverständlich eine neue Mitte des doch sehr zerklüfteten Quartiers. Das eingeschossige Atrium entwickelt in dieser Umgrenzung von mächtigen Baumassen eine erhebliche beruhigende Kraft entwickelt, die städtebaulich ausschlaggebend überzeugt.
Das in sich ruhende "Reich der Kinder" ist auf ein Gelände "Podest " angehoben, die dadurch erdgeschossigen Gruppenräume gehen sanft in den durch die gedeckten Terrassen gefassten Spielhof über.
Gleichermaßen zur ebenen Erde sind an der Westseite des "Podestes " die auch extern genutzten Funktionen zum Park hin angeordnet. Dieses kluge Ausnutzen der Topografie ergibt eine optimale Positionierung im öffentlichen Raum.
Im Inneren bietet der Entwurf unaufgeregte Klarheit, gute Funktionalität, schöne Außenbezüge und ein hohes Maß an räumlicher Elastizität.
